After adding Cupcake Boxes to whatthefold.com, we just had to make this miniature version for those smaller cupcakes we all love so much. Its identical to the regular sized Cupcake Box, but since it is considerably smaller, the main pattern is all in one piece instead of 2. Use the same type of paper, the same cupcake recipe and the same cupcake decorations, only on a smaller scale.
p.s. It would be a good idea to line the bottom of your mini cupcake box with a piece of wax paper, most cupcakes tend to leave a greasy residue and it can soak through the base of your box over time.
Packaging Supplies
-Mini Cupcakes
-8.5 x 11 Paper
-Ruler
-X-acto Knife or Scissors
-Bone Folder
-Food safe Glue (Check our List of Glues that we suggest) (or make your own”Safe Glue Recipe for Food Boxes“)
-Mylar
Lets Get Started:
Step 1:
Print out the Download template found at the top of the page. Use An X-acto knife or scissors to cut out the solid lines of the mini cupcake box.
Step 2:
Take a bone folder and ruler to score out all of the dotted lines of the cupcake box. Use the ruler to keep the score lines straight. Bend all of the lines that are dotted inside of themselves.
Step 3:
Cut out a square piece of mylar slightly smaller than the dotted square surrounding the window of the box. Take a glue gun (preheated) and quickly glue in between the box’s cut-out window and the dotted square (see picture bellow), then place the mylar over the glue and scrape over the glue with your bone folder to flatten it and create a stronger bound.
Step 4:
The bottom of the box has three tabs. One long flap with a tab and two short tabs on either side of the large one. Fold those three parts 90 degrees, then fold the three walls of the box at 90 degrees above the three tabs, so that the two small tabs are facing each other. Glue the two small tabs in this position.
Step 5:
Now its time to close the 4 walls together and form the box. If you look at the base of the box there is a remaining tab. Glue the outside of the tab to the inside of the 4th wall. Now, all that remains is on side to the wall with a loose tab still unattached. Take this tab and glue it as shown in the picture.
Step 8:
Take a piece of ribbon and insert into the four holes to close the cupcake boxes.
The insertion pattern goes as such : from the outside of the box insert the ribbon in the right-side hole of the base of the box, then into the right-side hole of the flap of the lid. The ribbon piece you are working with should now be on the inside of the box. From there, insert the tip of the ribbon through the back of the left-side hole of the flap of the lid, then through the back of the hole on the left-side of the base of the box.
Now close the box and make sure the flaps of the cover fold into the box. Make a Pretty bow to hold the box closed and TADA! Your ready to go.
Hello,
Thank you for the nice tutorials and templates.
Also I have wondered what was best glue to use on food boxes as children’s glue seemed like the best choice, which I used due to concerns for health. I am trying the home made glue, but went for the low calorie version…(LOL) I only had “Light corn syrup” in cabinet.
I hope it works as well.
The video music is quite catchy , kind of fun to listen to while watching.
We have a great article on just this http://whatthefold.com/?p=565
Here’s the short version: Homemade glue recipes are the best
Such as our cornstarch based recipe http://whatthefold.com/safe-glue-recipe-for-food-boxes/
Non-toxic white glues that kids use in school are also good.
